On 10 June, Garth presented another DURBAN SINGS remix live on Cjam91.5fm. He sourced again the Albert Park Collection of recordings. Umlazi township is one of the most populated urban African settlements in Durban.it has a rich history predating the arrival of Colonial forces in the territory now called Natal. It is said to have gotten its name from the king of  the Zulu state: Shaka. Whilst most histories ans discriptions of this area have been done by outsiders talking to distant audiences, the Durbansing research has helped to uncover and re-center memories held by thothose who call uMlazi; Home.

Malungisa Youth Organisation (MYD) is a community based organization which is located at uMzinyathi. It was formed by 2007, founded by Bongisipho Phewa under the mentorship of Dudu Khumalo (Gcabashe).It aims was to develop youth Mentaly and get them empowered by skills which can be a good benefit to them and the community as a whole, also to see the young people playing a good role in building their community. Mzinyathi (Qadi clan) is a rural area their lifestyle is mainly driven by cultural practices/activitries, it one of the oldest areas around Durban (KZN) as it date back from the 18th century. This area is part of ward three which consist of different communities who are living different lifestyles as Skebheni,Machobeni,Matikwe,Matata e.t.c…As Malungisa we are trying to cover the whole ward , we are sanding a vote of invitation to any young candidate from ward three who is welling to join us in the struggle for social development.

We as youth in action work in a big area each consist of a big number of citizens because our organization is working around Inanda,Ntuzuma,Kwamasha.At this moment we have managed to just cover two area for now include Inanda and Ntuzuma,we hope in the near future we would expand  into Kwamashu.

Our organization aims to improve skills of the youth in the INK area, the standard of living, develop the under-developed and at this moment we searching for young kids talents on cruses, young men’s issues and also kids awe ness and care.
Our population that we are working around via our research with the Durban Sings project is 175700thousand and in that population more citizens are unemployed then the employed. Most of these citizens stay in the informal settlement then the formal settlement, and we have 37 schools around the area.

Below is the raw footage clips of the KZNRC collected duringfrom the Durban Sings oral history research project.  sample are on line, can be found in: www.archive.org .

The format follows the basic D/S questioniare interview i.e.: biography, family tree, memories about the area, significant events, future prospects and proverb/ song.we thank you everyone who agreed with us or tell us his oral history about his area.
Brief  background

However, the task was hard for us because, it was not easy to reach all the community of Refugee here in Kwazulu Natal, but we had done our best just to make our work to be done.
The KwaZulu-Natal Refugee Council (KZNRC) is a non profit organization and umbrella body of refugee communities and organizations as well as self-help initiatives based in the KwaZulu-Natal province registered with the Department of Social Development. Reg. No.040-718-NPO.
We are a community oriented organization as different refugee communities form our base with non discrimination regarding their race, religious and country of origin.

The main aim of the KZNRC is to promote a holistic integration of African migrants in e-Thekwini Municipality and KZN, through provision of assistance in health care, welfare, education, employment, Skills Development and Trainings… and eradication of Afro-phobia.

 Mix languages mainly English, a bit of French, Kiswahili. Very rough but interesting reflections precariousness of migrant groups in Durban and South Africa, Afro-fobia, civil war, HOPE, identity Pan African Revolution... songs... proverbs and prayers.
